What do Cub Scouts do?
A shorter question might be "What DON'T they do?" Our activities
are limited only by your imagination (and of course, your safety).
In Pack 421, we run a classic Cub Scout Pinewood Derby, launch model rockets,
go fishing, camping, hiking, and many other outdoor activities. Den activities
include bike rides, handicrafts, sports, and so much more.
Can I do other Non-Scouting activities while I'm a Scout?
Of course. Whether Scouting is your only activity or just one of several
activities you enjoy, we encourage Scouts to try new experiences. We offer
awards in the form of Belt Loops and Pins for Scouts that participate in sports
and academic pursuits.
How big is Cub Scout Pack 421?
As of 1/1/06, Pack 421 has 88 Scouts ranging from first grade through fifth
grade.
How is Cub Scout Pack 421 organized?
Cub Scout Pack 421 is divided into dens of 6-8 boys at the same grade level.
One or two parent volunteers lead each den.
When are the meetings?
The Pack meets as a large group once per month. Our meetings are generally
held on the third Monday of each month at the Heron Pond Elementary School
cafeteria in Milford. There are some exceptions due to holidays or special
Pack-wide events. See the Calendar page for full details of meeting dates and
times.
Dens in Pack 421 meet on a variety of days and times depending on the
schedules of their members. Each Den independently chooses a meeting day and
time that is convenient for the Scouts in the Den. Most dens meet weekly, but
skip the week of the Pack meeting.
Where are the meetings?
Pack meetings are held at the Heron Pond Elementary School in Milford.
Dens meet at various locations throughout Milford, including private homes,
school classrooms, and churches. Each Den chooses a meeting place that is
convenient for its members.
What does it mean to have a Sponsor?
The Boy Scouts of America requires that each Pack be sponsored (or chartered)
through a local non-profit organization. Many Packs are chartered by churches,
American Legion Posts, Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, etc. These charter
relationships help to build the community by giving Scouts a relationship to
existing community organizations.
Cub Scout Pack 421 is sponsored by the Church of Our Saviour in Milford, NH.
What about religion?
The Boy Scouts of America recognizes the importance of religious faith and
duty; it leaves sectarian religious instruction to the member's religious
leaders and family.
How much does it cost?
Fees, including registration, subscription to Boy's Life magazine, and den
dues to offset the costs of most activities, are $40 per calendar year.
Do I need a uniform? Yes.
For Pack 421, the uniform consists of shirt with proper insignia, neckerchief
to indicate rank, and an optional hat and belt.
How do I sign up?
If you're in the Milford, NH area, send an e-mail to the Pack 421 Cubmaster
at Cubmaster@bsapack421.org with
your name and contact information. The current Cubmaster will contact you to
answer any additional questions you may have and get an application started for
you.
What if I'm still not sure?
Pack 421 invites you to attend one of our den meetings at no cost to see our
Scouts in action. If you like what you see, and we're sure you will, we'll set
you up with an application and get you started.
To find out when our dens meet and to arrange a visit, e-mail the Pack 421
